Welfare is the provision of a minimal level well-being and social support for all clients. Offer clients advice around budgets, housing and other needs that are required. The support provided is free information, support and advice to the public.
Advice will be giving face-to-face, over the telephone or by letter or email. You will advise on benefits, rights, housing and other needs as well. Within the role you will explain benefits rules and claims, checking that the client can claim. Helping clients to fill out application forms, get ready for appeals, liaising with other agencies, keeping information confidential and keeping up to date with the latest welfare reforms.
To get in to this type of work, volunteering advice would be recommended and you will receive the training in interviewing skill and general advice including welfare benefits. They are no formal qualifications required for the role, but a good standard of English and Maths, A DBS will be required for the role.
