A lot has changed for me over the years and my career has evolved from Temps Consultant to Manager from employee to employer.  I joined a business with about 10 staff and we are now 50+ with three office locations.  For those of you out there old enough to remember retro adverts I followed the advice of Victor Kiam (for the rest of you ask Google!)

I thought I would share with you, in no particular order, 18 things I’ve learned in the last 18 years

  1. Be decisive
  2. Embrace change
  3. Inspire
  4. Believe and achieve
  5. Don’t be afraid to ask for advice
  6. You’re never too old to learn
  7. Don’t ask anyone to do anything you’re not prepared to do
  8. Have a goal/vision
  9. Develop meaningful connections
  10. Give band and “pay it forward”
  11. Failing isn’t failure
  12. Do not take your customers for granted
  13. Develop and invest in talent
  14. Over-prepare
  15. A strong culture creates a strong company
  16. TCUP – think correctly under pressure
  17. Hire carefully - finding the right employee is not unlike finding the right partner, you need to share the same values
  18. Enjoy what you do and balance work with you-time/family time
