'Wellbeing Mentor' is a vital role at The Young Lives Foundation based in Kent. As a mentor, you will support young people through guidance and encouragement, helping them navigate challenges and develop their potential. Join us in making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and youth.
Responsibilities
' Build trusting relationships with young people to support their personal growth.
• Plan and facilitate engaging activities that promote development.

• Support children with special educational needs through tailored mentoring.
• Maintain accurate records of interactions and progress.

Job Description:
ALL EXPENSES COVERED
Location: Across Kent and Medway, in schools and the community
Commitment: Typically 1–2 hours a week, programmes vary between 12-24 weeks
Start Date: Recruiting and training volunteers now for April 2026 launch
Training & Support: Full training, supervision, and ongoing support provided
About the Role: As a Wellbeing Mentor, you’ll provide one-to-one support to a young person who will benefit from having a positive role model and a listening ear. Your time, encouragement, and care will make a real difference, helping them to build confidence, self-esteem, and a sense of wellbeing. You’ll meet regularly with a young person, offering a friendly face, and a genuine interest in the young person's wellbeing being. Whether it’s taking part in activities, or just talking things through, you’ll help them discover their strengths and feel more connected.
What You’ll Do
• Build a consistent, positive mentoring relationship with a young person.
• Offer encouragement, understanding, and practical support to boost wellbeing and resilience.
• Take part in fun, meaningful activities, utilising YLF resources that promote confidence and connection.
• Work alongside YLF’s team to ensure sessions support the young person’s development.
• Utilise our easy-to-use monitoring forms to track progress and achievements
• Attend induction training and take part in supervision and support sessions.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or youth useful but not essential
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Reliability and commitment to agreed length of mentoring arrangement
- Good time keeping
- Willingness to undertake initial training programme and annual refreshers
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to build trust with young people
- Ability to adapt to different learning styles and individual needs
