Privacy International is a UK registered charity working globally to promote the human right of privacy. We challenge the misuse of data and surveillance by governments and corporations, and campaign for strong and effective privacy protections. Our work sits at the intersection of human rights and technology, with impact at both a national and international level.

Privacy International are now seeking to appoint a Trustee – Treasurer to join their Board.


The role

The Board has the ultimate responsibility for ensuring that Privacy International maintains its institutional integrity while advancing its mission, values and mandate.

As Treasurer, you will play a key role in supporting the Board by:

  • Providing strategic oversight of the organisation’s financial position
  • Chairing the Finance and Audit Committee
  • Supporting the monitoring of budgets, financial reporting and audits
  • Ensuring that appropriate financial controls are in place
  • Contributing to Board-level discussions and strategic decision-making

This is an opportunity to apply your expertise in support of an organisation addressing some of the most pressing issues in the digital age.


About you

We are seeking a trustee with senior financial experience, for example as a qualified accountant, Finance Director or similar.

You will bring:

  • A strong understanding of financial governance, reporting and controls
  • Experience contributing at Board or senior leadership level
  • The ability to provide independent judgement and constructive challenge
  • A demonstrable commitment to the organisation’s aims and objectives

Experience within the charity, NGO or international sector is welcome but not essential.


Time commitment

  • Approximately 10 hours per month (will not exceed)
  • Four Board meetings per year, including one in-person away day; the remaining meetings are typically held remotely
  • Additional time for the Finance and Audit Committee


Terms

This is unremunerated voluntary role.  All reasonable travel and subsistence expenses will be reimbursed
