Location: Seaford

Compensation: Volunteer

Job description:

We are looking for a volunteer to befriend and read to someone we support at our services. You will provide companionship to someone we support by spending time with them, visiting them and reading to them. Reading to people with visual impairments offers meaningful cognitive, emotional, and social benefits. It provides access to literature, news, and educational materials that might otherwise be difficult to engage with, helping to support lifelong learning and intellectual stimulation. Listening to stories can also enhance imagination and language comprehension, much like reading visually. Beyond the practical advantages, being read to fosters a sense of inclusion and connection, especially when it becomes a shared activity between individuals. This interaction can reduce feelings of isolation, promote well-being, and create opportunities for discussion and bonding, making reading aloud both an empowering and enriching experience.
