Policy & Advocacy Manager
Salary: £41,000 to £55,000
Location: London, hybrid, Tuesday to Thursday in the office, Monday and Friday from home
Contract: Permanent

How do you turn frontline evidence into genuine influence?

This international humanitarian and development charity is looking for a Policy & Advocacy Manager to lead its policy and advocacy function, ensuring the experiences and evidence emerging from programmes and communities inform conversations with policymakers, Parliament, government and the wider international development sector.

Sitting within the Impact function, you will develop the organisation's advocacy strategy, establish clear policy positions and build its external influence on the issues where it can make a credible contribution.

You will lead one member of staff and work closely with communications, fundraising and programme colleagues.
You will:
  • develop and deliver the organisation's policy and advocacy strategy
  • identify priority issues where evidence from programmes and partners can contribute to systemic change
  • produce rigorous policy briefs, position papers and consultation responses
  • translate programme evidence and research into compelling influencing work
  • build relationships with policymakers, civil servants, parliamentarians, institutional donors and sector partners
  • lead parliamentary and public affairs engagement, including APPGs, consultations and select committees
  • represent the organisation through relevant coalitions and sector networks
  • develop advocacy campaigns in partnership with communications colleagues
  • monitor the impact of advocacy activity and adjust strategy accordingly
  • manage and develop a Policy and Advocacy Officer
About you
You will bring substantial experience in policy, advocacy or public affairs, including experience developing and delivering advocacy strategies and influencing campaigns.
You will need a working understanding of UK public affairs and parliamentary processes, alongside experience turning research, programme learning or frontline evidence into credible policy positions.

Strong research, writing and analytical skills are essential, as is the ability to build relationships and influence external stakeholders.

You will be comfortable working across communications, fundraising and programme teams and understand the wider humanitarian and international development policy landscape.

This is particularly well suited to someone who wants policy work to be grounded in what programmes and communities are actually experiencing. You will have the scope to build relationships, sharpen the organisation's external voice and develop an advocacy function capable of delivering real influence.

International travel may occasionally be required.

We want you to have every opportunity to demonstrate your skills, ability and potential; please contact us if you require any assistance or adjustment so that we can help with making the application process work for you.
