At School of Sexuality Education, we aim to provide young people with the knowledge, skills and attributes to build healthier lives and develop a more equitable society.

School of Sexuality Education is looking for new Trustees who can fill the skills gaps, as well as contribute new ideas, thereby strengthening and complementing the existing skills base of the Board. Due to succession planning, it seeks additional Trustees who will provide strategic leadership, ensure good governance, and help the charity deliver its objectives.

Key responsibilities of Trustees include:

Spending approximately 8 hours per academic term: 

• Ensuring that the charity has a clear vision, mission and strategic direction, and is focused on achieving these.
• Being responsible for the performance of the charity and for its ‘corporate’ behaviour.
• Ensuring that the charity complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
• Acting as guardian of the charity’s assets, both tangible and intangible, taking all due care over their security, deployment and proper application.
• Ensuring that the charity’s governance and risk management are of the highest possible standard.
• Working in partnership with other trustees, the CEO, and other senior staff.

Trustees may be asked to act as a member of a Board Sub-committee or advisory group. They may also be invited to attend School of Sexuality Education events from time to time.

Person Specification

School of Sexuality Education is a charity looking to appoint up to two new Trustees who share our values and mission. We have grown rapidly over the past nine years and work to deliver relationships, sex and health education programmes on a national scale.

We are looking for candidates who can help consolidate our existing operations as well as scaling further. We are interested in candidates from a range of backgrounds, including but not limited to fundraising, HR, finance, PR, and working in large charities.

Our values are important to us and we expect our team including Trustees to model our approach of inclusivity and passion for social justice. As a charity working with young people all team members must understand the importance of safeguarding children.

Terms of Appointment 

This role is unremunerated; however, reimbursement is made for all reasonable expenses with regard to Trustees’ duties on behalf of the charity. The appointment will be for four years from January 2027 with a standard extension of a further four years, subject to reappointment.

Board meetings take place virtually at a minimum every 3 months. These are sometimes supplemented by focused single-issue meetings in line with the organisation’s needs at the time.
