Governance volunteer roles

About the roles

We’re looking for passionate people – both CIEH members and non-members – to join our governance committees. These volunteer roles are your chance to help shape the future of environmental health, support our mission of creating safer, cleaner and healthier environments, and ensure CIEH continues to act with transparency and integrity.

Why volunteer?

Governance volunteering isn’t about ticking boxes – it’s about working together to make a difference. By joining us, you’ll:

  • Use your voice to influence the direction of the profession
  • Grow your leadership skills and confidence in a welcoming environment
  • Meet inspiring people who share your passion for improving lives
  • Be part of something bigger, supporting CIEH in meeting its public interest obligations

What to expect

Most of our volunteers have full time jobs or other commitments, so we aim to make your involvement as manageable as possible.

We'll give you advance notice for meetings and projects, and most of our meetings are held virtually, so you can join from wherever you are.

Who we’re looking for

You don’t need to be a governance expert – just bring your enthusiasm, perspective and commitment to environmental health. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and especially encourage individuals who reflect the diversity of the profession and the communities we serve.

  • Environmental Health Services Committee (EHSC) - One CIEH member
  • Appointments and Remuneration Committee (ARC) - One CIEH member
  • Risk and Audit Committee (RAC) - One non-member and One CIEH member or non-member
