SV2 Volunteer (Promotional Events/Raising Awareness Only)

Reporting to: Head of Operations

Unpaid role, travel expenses paid, access to a vehicle and business insurance is required for this role.

Background

SV2 is a company Limited by Guarantee which is registered with the Charity Commission (Registered Number 1077863). The registered aims of the Charity are:

• to help relieve the suffering and distress of persons who have been raped or sexually abused; and

• to advance the education of the public in the subject of rape and sexual abuse and their effects.

The registered activities are:

• to promote the recovery of any adult or young person of any gender who has experienced rape or sexual abuse at any point in their life; and

• to offer one to one counselling, phone support, forensic medicals following recent incidents, with or without police involvement, young people's service, trust & support through court and criminal proceedings.

Purpose of the Role

To support SV2 to raise awareness of SV2 services at external events, celebrations and various festivals. All volunteers must work within SV2’s Health & Safety Policy and take responsibility for personal Health & Safety

Qualities and Experience

We are looking for people that:

• Are reliable and punctual

• Are able to communicate clearly to others in a friendly and supportive way

• Are able to listen to others in non-judgmental way, and without feeling the need to ‘fix’ or ‘give advice’

• Are open minded and able to see things from different perspectives including diverse values and beliefs

• Feel confident in crowded and busy environments

• Be confident to talk about and promote SV2 services to a diverse audience

• Are able to remain calm and professional in sometimes challenging situations

• Understands the importance of boundaries

• Willing to work within guidelines and follow confidentiality policies

• Are friendly and able to build a rapport with a wide range of people

• Have an interest in wellbeing and self-care

The Volunteering Process

The process of becoming a SV2 volunteer is usually straight forward;

1. We may advertise for specific volunteering roles or follow up when we receive enquiries.

2. In all instances you will be asked to complete an SV2 volunteer application form.

3. You would then be invited to attend an informal interview to discuss the role, your experience, and your interest in volunteering at SV2

4. If suitable and you are still interested an enhanced DBS check will be completed and your references requested

5. Once DBS clearance and your references have been received you will be invited to an induction and training day

6. You will be asked to attend events on a rota basis based on your availability. We ask volunteers to be available to attend 1-2 events per month when needed.

7. You will be given regular support by Head of Operations and/or the Community Development Team and have the opportunity for support from other volunteers during volunteer meetings.

8. You will be invited to attend relevant team meetings

9. You also have the opportunity to take part in ongoing training opportunities as they arise
