Title: SV2 Volunteer (Promotional Events/Raising Awareness Only) 

Reporting to: Head of Operations 

Unpaid role, travel expenses paid, access to a vehicle and business insurance is required for this role. 

Awareness Volunteer – Events and Community Engagement 

About the role 

SV2 provides specialist support in Derby and Derbyshire for people affected by sexual violence and abuse. This volunteer role helps raise awareness of SV2’s services at local events, festivals and community activities.

By raising awareness of SV2’s services, volunteers help more people understand what support is available. This can make it easier for survivors, families, friends and professionals to find the right help at the right time and increase access to support across Derby and Derbyshire.

No previous experience is needed. You will not be expected to provide counselling, advice or crisis support. Your role is to be friendly, welcoming, share information about SV2 and signpost people to services when appropriate.

Main Tasks 

  • Help set up and pack away information stalls
  • Welcome people who visit the SV2 stand
  • Hand out leaflets and information
  • Talk to members of the public in a friendly and respectful way
  • Signpost people to SV2 staff or services if they ask for support
  • Provide accurate information about SV2 services and how people can access support
  • Follow SV2 guidance on confidentiality, boundaries and health and safety.

We are looking for someone who is: 

  • Friendly and approachable
  • Reliable and Punctual
  • Comfortable speaking with members of the public
  • Able to listen without judgement
  • Respectful of confidentiality and boundaries
  • Able to attend occasional weekend events
  • Interested in helping raise awareness of issues affecting people impacted by sexual violence and abuse
  • Comfortable representing SV2 in community settings

At events, volunteers may meet people who ask sensitive questions or share personal experiences relating to sexual violence, abuse or trauma. Volunteers are not expected to provide counselling, advice or crisis support in these situations. Volunteers will receive guidance on boundaries, confidentiality and signposting.
