Communications Volunteer: Family Stories and Social Media

Little Ripples is looking for a creative, thoughtful volunteer to help us share warm, useful content for children and young people affected by cancer in their family or close community.

We are a newly registered charity working to help young people feel seen, supported and understood when someone close to them has cancer. This is a chance to contribute to a growing organisation where your ideas and skills will help shape how we communicate.

The role

You will help us show up online in a way that feels real, welcoming and helpful. You will:

  • Write social-media posts, captions and short scripts.
  • Create simple, engaging visuals in Canva using our brand colours and templates.
  • Help plan monthly content around key dates and agreed themes.
  • Have one supported call each month with a family, using questions we provide.
  • Turn these conversations into sensitive, approved content that reflects each family’s story with care.

What you’ll gain

  • Practical experience in charity communications, storytelling and content planning.
  • Portfolio-ready work.
  • Training in safeguarding and trauma-informed storytelling.
  • Regular support from a named contact, including a debrief after family calls.
  • The opportunity to influence how Little Ripples develops its communications.

Who we’re looking for

This role may suit someone with experience or study in marketing, journalism, media or design. You should be comfortable writing for social media and interested in creating clear, accessible content.

Lived experience of cancer in your family or close circle is welcome, but it is not required. What matters most is that you can listen well, communicate thoughtfully and handle personal stories with respect.

We welcome volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds, ages and experiences. If your skills have been built through routes other than work or formal study, we would still like to hear from you.

Practical details

  • Location: Remote, from wherever suits you
  • Time: About 2 flexible hours a week
  • Length: Initial six-month commitment, reviewed together afterwards
  • Expenses: Reasonable out-of-pocket costs, such as travel and subsistence, are reimbursed
  • You’ll need: A laptop and reliable Wi‑Fi; we provide the platforms needed for the role

You will receive a full induction, guidance and consent processes for family conversations, and flexible support if life becomes busy. Reasonable adjustments are available

How to apply

Tell us why you're interested and what you think you could bring to the team at Little Ripples. A short note or a short video both work or let us know if another format suits you better. If you have a CV or portfolio, you're welcome to attach it, but you don't need one.

Send it to hello@littleripplesuk.org.uk by Monday 26th October, 9am.

We'll get back to everyone. If you're shortlisted, we'll invite you to an interview.

This role is advertised as part of TPP's Free Giving Back Services. This volunteer advertisement copy has been supplied to TPP and applicants apply direct to the organisation. Please contact the organisation directly if you have any questions about this volunteer role.
