Events professionals work in non-profit and public sector organisations, planning and managing events, conferences, exhibitions and training workshops for charities and NFP organisations to raise the profile of the organisation, create awareness of their cause or bring in additional income.
Specific job titles for events roles include Events Administrator, Events Coordinator, Events Assistant, Event Organiser or Events Manager, Head of Events.
The responsibilities for events jobs vary greatly depending on the organisation. Events coordination and management for larger charities, membership and other non-profit bodies will involve greater quantities of work with a press team and with the media, while events for smaller organisation will involve a wider scope which could involve anything from writing funding applications to setting out the chairs prior to functions.
Event jobs can include any of the following: brainstorming ideas for events, sourcing and contacting artists, speakers, venues and agents, working with PR, marketing and press teams to boost the organisations public profile, planning the logistics of events: venue, food, seating etc., coordinating invites and sending out correspondence, dealing with health and safety, writing press release, attending industry functions, making funding applications, necessary administration and record-keeping, managing teams of assistants and volunteers, rate negotiation and budgeting, contractor and supplier generation, coordination and management, post event evaluation; feedback forms, surveys etc.
Charity event professionals sometimes go on to other jobs in the third sector, working in departments such as marketing and fundraising or moving up to more senior roles within larger teams or charities.
