Welcome to Groundwork London

Thank you very much for your interest in becoming Chair of Groundwork London.

As London faces an evolving and increasingly complex set of challenges, our work is more critical than ever. Our strategy is shaped by the evolving needs of Londoners and the unique scale of the city’s environmental, social, and economic issues, as well as its opportunities for regeneration and growth. We are operating in a city under pressure from growth and from continued reductions in public expenditure which have a significant impact on our communities, on local authorities and on other public and voluntary sector partners.

We work across the capital, partnering with residents, local authorities, businesses, and community organisations to improve local environments, support those facing disadvantage, and help London adapt to the challenges of climate change.

Our 250 dedicated staff provide specialist services to help people gain confidence and skills, get into training and work, protect and improve greenspaces, lead more active lives and overcome significant challenges such as poverty isolation, low skills and poor health.

  • Ensure appropriate Board oversight of organisational performance, financial health, and long‑term sustainability
  • Lead the Board in evaluating its own effectiveness and ensuring continuous improvement
