Chair

IEEP UK is recruiting a new Chair to lead its Board of Trustees as the organisation enters a new phase of UK-EU environmental policy collaboration.

The Chair will set strategic direction, oversee governance, support board effectiveness, and line-manage the Executive Director, while acting as a figurehead and spokesperson for the charity.

A major priority will be leading development of IEEP UK’s next five-year strategy, building on its current 2023–2027 strategy and growing influence in UK and European environmental policy.

IEEP UK is looking for an experienced, respected leader with strong environmental policy expertise, charity governance knowledge, strategic planning experience, and UK/European policy networks.  Your specific responsibilities will include:

• Lead quarterly online board meetings.
• Act as line manager for the Executive Director, providing guidance and acting as a sounding board on a wide range of issues.
• Ensure the board has the necessary skills and experience to effectively undertake its role.
• Ensure the board works effectively with the Executive Director and wider staff team, mentoring, guiding and holding to account, as appropriate, to support organisational excellence.
• Ensure governance compliance, supported by the Executive Director and the Head of Finance and Operations.
• Act as a figurehead and spokesperson for the organisation.
• Bring external insight to inform our work.

The role is voluntary and unremunerated, with an estimated time commitment of around 12 days per year, plus agreed expenses.
