Organisations which develop qualifications for either specific professions, vocational markets or academic needs ie GCSEs and A-Levels require developers in qualifications and assessment.
Depending on the size of the organisation roles in this sector will require you to have experience or understanding of the full or part of the qualification and/or assessment lifecycle development process. This includes market research, designing specifications, developing content by managing subject matter experts and launching products. You will also need to continuously review existing qualifications to ensure they are up to market and legislative standards and commercially viable.
Assessment development roles will also require understanding of assessment methodologies including subjective, objective and coursework based assessments. You will be responsible for ensuring question banks are developed, maintained and evaluated by managing committees and groups of subject matter experts and other contractors such as moderators, examiners and assessors.
Many assessments are moving onto online platforms so ideally you will have an understanding of online systems, or be able to quickly pick these up in order to liaise with external contractors or internal specialists on the technical requirements in order for the assessment to run correctly.
With many organisations looking to move into or enhance their existing apprenticeship offering an understanding of the apprenticeship market is also a bonus in this field. This includes understanding the new standards and requirements of the government schemes as well as areas such as Trailblazers and End Point Assessment (EPA.) You will also need to liaise with industry professionals and employers in order to develop to their current and future market needs.
Vocational qualifications and assessments are looking at T-Levels, the new technical qualifications to simplify the existing vocational qualification market for 16-19year olds.
