Why RCR needed TPP's support

Following a major governance restructure that reduced the size of its Trustee Board from 28 to 12 members, RCR sought to appoint two new Lay Trustees. The aim was to bring diversity of experience and thought to a board historically dominated by medical professionals.

The college was specifically looking for:

  • A Trustee with global business development expertise, ideally someone who had led transformation and growth in large international organisations.
  • A Trustee with a background in advocacy, campaigning, or politics, with a deep understanding of the NHS and the current healthcare landscape.

The challenge was to:

  • Attract candidates with senior-level experience across relevant sectors.
  • Ensure diversity of background and governance experience.
  • Deliver a high-quality shortlist within a tight timeframe.

What TPP did

We partnered closely with RCR to design and deliver a comprehensive and proactive recruitment campaign, including:

  • A compelling and inclusive advert that clearly articulated the strategic importance of the roles and the impact trustees could have on the future of healthcare.

  • Promotion via a Featured Ad on TPP’s website, inclusion in TPP’s candidate newsletter, and a strategic alert to relevant candidates in TPP’s trustee and NED database as well as director level candidates who had background in policy/campaigning and business growth.

  • Targeted LinkedIn advertising and outreach, including a tailored job card promoted across all 3 L&G consultants socials at regular 3 days slots.

  • Direct search, identification and engagement with high-calibre individuals across healthcare, policy, academia, and commercial sectors.

  • Each inquiry and targeted search received a detailed information pack outlining the College’s mission, core values, and the responsibilities expected of the role as well as expected time commitment.

  • Additionally, each candidate was offered the opportunity to engage in a preliminary discussion with TPP’s consultants to explore the opportunity, understand the time commitment required, and grasp the strategic priorities of the organisation.

  • Candidate support including advice on application and tailored communications to ensure accessibility.

  • Interview and offer coordination.

  • Unsuccessful candidates were informed with great care on behalf of the client, ensuring the employer's brand remained positively upheld.

Testimonial

Client

"The leadership & Governance team did such a fantastic job in finding excellent candidates for out trustee board vacancies. They provided us with a significant number of candidates who met the skills we had identified; a much better field than we had managed ourselves through the traditional advertising route. We appointed two candidates of very high calibre with fantastic experience who are both enthusiastic and keen to get started. I would recommend the TPP Leadership & Governance team without hesitation and will be using them again for future board recruitment."

Candidates

“TPP have been fantastic throughout the process keeping me posted as to progress and providing feedback.  There the advantage of being able to have a frank dialogue with an agency, rather than an inhouse team, which I valued.  I dealt with Lisa, Matt and Sema from the Leadership and Governance team at TPP and all were excellent.  I will use TPP again as a candidate and as a member of a board recruiting.”
