Why NEBDN needed TPP's support

NEBDN had recently undergone a senior-level restructure, creating new strategic posts. Their Head of Regulation was one of their business-critical and newly defined roles. The challenge lay in attracting highly experienced professionals into an organisation in transition, and the need for specialist knowledge in a regulated awarding environment.

The restructure followed the departure of the previous Head of Strategy and Regulation, creating a short timeframe to find experienced replacements.

NEBDN needed someone with in-depth experience of regulatory reporting, including compiling statements of compliance and liaising directly with education regulators – skills in short supply within the sector. The role required stakeholder credibility, data confidence, and the ability to step into board-level conversations with assurance.

What NEBDN wanted to achieve

NEBDN wanted to appoint a senior leader who could play a pivotal role in supporting their strategic ambitions: embedding robust quality and regulatory frameworks across the organisation.

Specific goals:

  • Strengthen regulatory engagement by hiring a Head of Regulation with proven experience working with Ofqual and other regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure the leader could support and develop internal teams while building strong relationships with external stakeholders and the associate workforce.
  • Ensure continuity during a leadership transition, with the new hire able to confidently represent NEBDN at board level.

What TPP did

Understanding the critical impact this role would have for NEBDN we acted immediately to address the requirement as outlined below:

  • Job briefing: Held in-depth briefings with the CEO and COO to understand the broader context of the restructure and the specific outcomes required for the role.

  • Candidate sourcing: Devised role-specific search strategies focusing on compliance experts with recent experience in the awarding sector.

  • Profile creation: Shared candidate profiles that gave insight into location, availability, transferable skills, and leadership experience, helping NEBDN quickly shortlist for interview.

  • Interview support: Supported NEBDN with a smooth, structured interview process, balancing the need to move quickly with securing quality. Acted as a sounding board throughout for both role fit and cultural alignment.

Testimonial

“Rachel Ridout has been absolutely brilliant throughout our recruitment process. Rachel was very efficient throughout the entire candidate journey. She was very organised and provided us with an excellent candidate group for interviewing. In addition, we have successfully appointed one of the candidates Rachel sent through. All of the candidates which we interviewed from TPP were also very complimentary of Rachel and their journey. Thank you very much.”
