Find Your Feet

Find Your Feet is an international charity that enables vulnerable rural families in Asia and Africa to grow enough food so they don’t have to go hungry, to strengthen their voice so they can speak out against injustice and to earn enough money so they can find their feet.

We are searching for a volunteer to work at least one day a week, to support our busy Fundraising and Communications team. Our office is based in Brixton near to major transport routes.

Job Overview

The purpose of this role is to support the Fundraising and Communication team in effectively filtering, using and managing their photos.

You will help the team to build a new user friendly, effective photo library. You will undertake photo organisation, selection, upload and categorisation; image sourcing; creation of staff user guides and recommendations for improved photo management processes.

This is an unpaid voluntary role within an ambitious but friendly work environment. We appreciate the contribution volunteers make to Find Your Feet’s goals, and aim to have a mutually beneficial relationship. We support volunteers to develop knowledge, skills and opportunities that will be useful to them in their future careers.

You will you gain experience of how a small international development organisation operates, develop valuable communications skills and have the opportunity to be part of building an exciting legacy project, helping staff to raise the profile of Find Your Feet’s cause long into the future.

Whilst the role will be focused predominantly on communications, there will also be opportunities to work within event fundraising, trust fundraising and programmes, upon agreement.

We are looking for someone able to commit to at least one day per week, for at least six months. Hours and days are negotiable and will be agreed on appointment. Travel and lunch expenses will be paid.

Specific tasks and responsibilities

1)      Photo management

  1. Sort through and organise existing photo collections (offline)
  2. Upload and categorise new images to the online library
  3. Undertake basic editing of photographs (when required)
  4. Make recommendations for developments or improvements to the proposed online system and to internal processes for managing photo assets

2)      Staff coaching and guidance

  1. Create guides for staff to assist them in using the online photo library
  2. Work with individuals and teams to provide support and encourage use of the photo library.

3)      Other - there will also be opportunities to work with other teams within the charity. For example:

  1. Providing social media support.
  2. Providing administrative support to the programmes team.
  3. Trust fundraising research.

5. Person specification

Knowledge/ Experience

  • Interest in the field of communications and photography
  • Interest in international development
  • Confidence in handling digital files – specifically photographs
  • Experience of working or volunteering with a diverse range of people
  • Interest in working in a not-for-profit environment
  • Basic knowledge of image editing software
  • Experience of online photo management systems (an advantage but not essential)

Skills

  • Good verbal and written English, with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
  • Computer literate with the ability to learn different digital tools and platforms
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Strong visual eye with understanding of what makes a good photograph
  • Ability to meet deadlines, problem-solve, prioritise tasks and work well under pressure
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
