|Job Title||Volunteer Museum Housekeeper - Whitby, North Yorkshire - EXPIRED|
|Location||Whitby, North Yorkshire|
|Job Published||16 Apr 2015|
|Contact Name||Volunteers team|
RNLI Heritage is defined as the never-ending story of our people and in order to preserve that history, the heritage team collect and care for the objects, archives and pictures that tell the story of the service since it was founded in 1824. The overall aim is to inspire current and future generations of supporters and lifesavers to enable the RNLI to continue to save lives at sea.
Lifeboats crewed by the people of Whitby have been helping those in trouble at sea since 1802, and thirty-six RNLI Medals for Gallantry have been awarded to crew members throughout the years.
Housed in a double boathouse that was used by the RNLI from 1895-1957, this museum features models, paintings, medals, photographs, kit and touching mementos from wrecks and famous rescues, including those involving Coxswains Henry Freeman and Tom Langlands. The museum also contains an RNLI shop stocking a wide range of gifts, including RNLI branded goods.
The role of Volunteer Museum Housekeeper begins with helping us to ensure that our visitors can access any leaflets and information easily and that it is relevant and up to date. Another part of this role is to care for our museum by ensuring that it is maintained in a clean and tidy state. This will entail cleaning our brass and glass and the dusting of the different museum areas including taking appropriate care of the objects within the museum.
We are looking for somebody with a friendly disposition who has the odd bit of time free to help us attract new supporters, whilst raising vital funds to save lives at sea and preserve the heritage of the RNLI.
