Job Description - EXPIRED

The RNLI's Lifeboat Station in Blyth is looking to hear from anyone in the community who would be interested in volunteering for the RNLI as a crew member to join its existing team.

During its 180-year history, Blyth Lifeboat Station has operated both all-weather and inshore lifeboats and following a recent announcement the RNLI has decided to undertake a trial of a second larger inshore lifeboat at Blyth. An Atlantic 85 lifeboat will be placed on a 2 year trial to operate alongside the station's current D Class. Blyth, with its deep-water harbour, is well located to meet an expected increase in demand from sports, recreational and leisure marine users in the area. Also, the development of the waterfront and harbour area at Blyth may generate additional beach and coastal incidents. The wider impact of these changes on lifesaving provision on this area will be reviewed at the end of the trial in 2017

All of the crew members are volunteers and many will say that it's a way of life and will testify that you get out what you put in! Given the nature of life-boating the pager can go off at any time of the day or night therefore, there is often an element of unsociable hours. Being a lifeboat crew member means you're available to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week and committing to an extensive RNLI training program which will turn you into a lifeboat crew member is all part of the deal!

All of our crew follow the RNLI's national Competency Based Training Scheme and will provide you with first class training and support to ensure that you have everything that you need to help us save lives at sea!

The station now needs new ILB volunteer crew to join the team at Blyth.
No previous maritime experience is needed.
Must live or work in Blyth.

This is a great opportunity to join a motivated, fun and enthusiastic local team whilst meeting new people within your community. You will have the satisfaction of helping to save lives at sea whilst all of the time you are building on skills and experience within a leading national charity.
