Job Description - EXPIRED

Henna Asian Women's Group is a community based organisation set up over 25 years ago to assist Asian ladies from India, Pakistan and East Africa. Ladies who may otherwise be isolated or lonely are given the opportunity to engage with likeminded individuals with whom they may share certain customs, values and attributes.

Our mission statement is "To improve the quality of Asian women's lives by reducing isolation, encouraging active participation and providing information and support"

Here at Henna Asian Women's Group we provide a befriending service that helps elderly women and men who are going through isolation to regain confidence to deal with issues that they are faced with. Henna volunteers will pay regular weekly or monthly visits to the individual. The befriending service does not include shopping, cooking, cleaning the individual's home or bathing/changing the individual or their family members.

The role of a volunteer Befriender is to support Asian women and men in the community who feel isolated by visiting them in their homes and encouraging them to use mainstream services.

Befrienders are in a position of trust as they establish a one to one relationship while working with the client, the volunteer will build a supportive relationship that enables the client to develop their sense of self-worth, and confidence while also providing a fresh social aspect to their life and reducing isolation. This can be achieved through regular contact and well thought out activities which both parties can enjoy.

If you are interested in providing two hours or more of your time and can speak an Asian language (Gujarati, Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu or Bengali), please continue to read how you could change someone's life. Your time can benefit elderly around you who are isolated.

Henna's members who live alone or are housebound or just looking for some company can benefit from the support offered by our volunteers. Henna volunteers will pay regular weekly or monthly visits to these vulnerable individuals. Your goal will be to act as a bridge between the client and services that can benefit their day to day life.

The One to One part of the service allows you to work with people, on a one-to-one basis, to achieve specific tasks or goals, or to take up activities that are meaningful to them. For example: supporting an older person to build up her confidence to rejoin a hobby club or network of friends after the loss of a partner; or to help them build up confidence to get out and about after a fall or other illness.

The Befriending service does not include shopping for, cooking, cleaning the client's home or bathing/changing the clients or their family members.

The Befriending services can include joining your client for a stroll in a local beauty spot, attending a G.P appointment with the client or accompany them to relevant services that will add value to their day to day life.

Volunteers will benefit by this opportunity as it can help you with your own self development. We can provide training opportunities which can lead on to employment, alongside this, it's good experience to get you out & about if you yourself are looking into improving your people skills.
This opportunity is open to women and men.

Henna is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Henna will do an enhanced CRB check that is required for this post. For further information, please email me on Manisha_hennaorg@yahoo.co.uk

The volunteering role will be based within London.

TPP is committed to equal opportunities and actively encourages applications from all sectors of the community. We shortlist based on competencies and not on race, religion, sex, physical or mental disability, or age.
