Job Description - EXPIRED

Teenage Cancer Trust

Every day 7 young people aged 13-24 are diagnosed with cancer. At Teenage Cancer Trust, we understand how devastating it is to take a young person away from everyday life – their friends, their school, their family – and put them in a cancer ward with small children or older adults. We provide specialist care to ensure young people with cancer don’t face these challenges alone.

Young people have a much better chance in their fight against cancer if they’re treated by teenage cancer experts, in an environment tailored to their needs, so we fund and build specialist units for young people in NHS hospitals. Our units bring young people with cancer together with others their own age so that they can support each other in the best place for them.

On Teenage Cancer Trust units there is a dedicated team of teenage and young adult cancer experts. These experts include our Nurse Specialists, who lead on the medical care, and our Youth Support Coordinators, who provide emotional, psychological and social support to help young people through their treatment.

Teenage Cancer Trust units aren’t like ordinary hospital wards. They’re designed in collaboration with teams of young people to ensure that patients feel comfortable. The walls are bright, the furniture is funky, there might be a pool table and a jukebox, and there’s always a place to watch TV and access the internet. Everything about them is designed to give young people the best chance of a positive outcome.

We want every young person with cancer in this country to receive expert care and support, but currently for every young person we can help, there’s another that we can’t reach. Therefore, we are developing an outreach programme to reach 100% of young people with cancer, no matter where they live.

The Opportunity:

2 days a week, 10am-5pm (days to be agreed with some flexibility on the hours)

London, Expenses paid

We are offering a 3-month internship for you to gain valuable experience within our busy Trusts and Foundations Fundraising department. This is a well-structured internship designed to give you to the opportunity to really learn and develop the skills needed to be a successful Trust Fundraiser.

You will use your excellent communication skills in assisting with grant applications and proposals, writing reports and carrying out research. You will have strong IT skills and will be confident in using Microsoft Office. Working as part of a dynamic, forward-thinking charity you will be a strong team player with lots of enthusiasm and a positive attitude.

Teenage Cancer Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all employees to share this commitment. The suitability of all prospective employees will be assessed during the recruitment process in line with safer recruitment practices including DBS checks where appropriate.
