Trustee sought for national advocacy organisation
VoiceAbility is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic people to join its Board of Trustees.
VoiceAbility’s vision is of a society in which everyone’s voice, views and hopes can be heard loudly and clearly, in which our rights are understood and respected, and in which each of us is able to lead a full and enjoyable life. We are one of the largest providers of advocacy in the country, supporting over 25,000 people per year who face disadvantage or discrimination to have their voices heard.
The Trustee role
The Board of Trustees is responsible for leading VoiceAbility to achieve its social mission, strategic aims and objectives. Trustees are also responsible for ensuring that the organisation complies with its legal and charitable obligations. Now is a particularly exciting time to join our organisation, as we are reviewing our strategy in order to further increase our social impact.
We are especially interested in hearing from candidates who have first-hand experience of the needs of the people who use or may use the services of the organisation, such as people who are disabled, carers, people who have used an advocacy service, or people with long-term health conditions. We are also very keen to hear from applicants who can bring one or more of the following competences: demonstrable business acumen; experience of setting effective business strategy; an understanding of change management; or a strong understanding of the social care and health policy-making and direction.
Location and time commitment
Approximately 6 - 10 days per year in total (possibly more for elected officers and Chairs of sub committees). This includes attendance at four half-day Board meetings per year, held alternately in London and Cambridge.
As we are a national organisation, the willingness to occasionally travel to other areas to see our services at work is desirable.
This is an unpaid role, but reasonable expenses are paid.
If you would like to apply for the role, please read the full description of the role and person specification at http://www.voiceability.org/jobs/current_vacancies/trustees then send a covering letter of no more than 500 words and a short CV to firstname.lastname@example.org
The closing date is 16th November 2015.
