Expand your skills and experience as Board Trustee Director of a youth-focussed, education-based, entirely voluntary organization and support the development of young people in the UK and Africa.
Tenteleni is a youth driven, volunteer run charity that supports the development of young people in the UK and Africa in collaboration with local partners. We provide young people with international volunteering placements in schools and local organisation s in South Africa, Kenya and Tanzania for 8 weeks during the University summer period.
Working alongside national volunteers through our Volunteer Partnership Programme, Tenteleni volunteers work in educational placements as teaching assistants; assisting with English language learning and youth issues. Volunteers are also encouraged to facilitate and support extra-curricular activities for learners and
create links between local Non-Governmental Organisations and their placements.
This is an opportunity to gain real experience of how an organisation functions and to work with others at a senior level making decisions which have a tangible impact on young people and communities. You will develop your strategic thinking and problem-solving skills which will not only broaden your horizons personally but assist you professionally with your next career move.
As Chair of the Board, you will also develop leadership skills and be in a positon to spearhead growth and change within the organisation. The Chair is the vital in ensuring that the Board runs smoothly and we are seeking someone who has the commitment and drive to motivate members and to push the organisation into the future.

this position offers an opportunity to contribute to its strategic direction. We are volunteer run and herefore everyone is driven by their passion and energy. As a youth-focused organisation we aim to recruit young people; the majority of our members are under 30 years old.
As a Board Director you will join the team responsible for the overall strategic decisions about the charity's direction, its vision, mission and charitable objects and supporting the Committee in delivering our ambitions.
You will be responsible for the legal and safe running of the charity's activities. You will:
- Work with the Executive Director, the Board, and the Charity's Committee to support Tenteleni in achieving its charitable objects
- Work on individual or joint projects developing aspects of Tenteleni's governance (eg. health and safety, volunteering good practice, risk management) and supporting in areas of your own interest and expertise
- Stay up to date with, and act on, developments which may affect Tenteleni's activities in the UK and in its host communities
- Promote Tenteleni's activities to appropriate audiences and network
We would particularly welcome applications from young people and students currently at university.
This is an unpaid, voluntary role. Necessary expenses incurred will be reimbursed. Willingness to travel to London or necessary location for Board meetings is essential and occasional travel to other cities for other meetings desirable.
