About CYP

CYP is a unique local youth project working in partnership with over 300 young people aged between 7 - 25 to create and sustain a positive youth culture that inspires children and young people to plan, initiate and, most importantly, lead their own projects. Through sports, arts, mentoring and enterprise CYP engages, nurtures and progresses children and young people, encouraging a sense of community and belonging while providing new opportunities to help raise achievement and levels of aspiration. We aim to enable young people to make a difference to the locality and through individual, tailored work with mentors provide a secure platform for entering young adult life to become active citizens.

About the opportunity

A Fundraising Trustee is needed to join the Management Committee of Copenhagen Youth Project (CYP).  Trustees have a shared responsibility for the strategic development of the organisation which has been established for over 15 years.

The Management Committee are working towards developing a new 2- 3 year business plan which will require an effective fundraising strategy that increases support for CYP. This is predominantly a strategic role but will involve some hands on work.

This volunteer role will provide the Trustee with a fantastic opportunity to develop their fundraising skills, as well as gaining strategic and management experience within a successful charity.

The Fundraising Trustee will work alongside the Project Director, Finance/ Admin Officer and the Marketing & Fundraising Sub Committee, specific responsibilities for this role include:

  • Understanding CYP’s purpose, service users and key marketing messages and using these to develop a fundraising plan to support the charity to deliver the agreed annual fundraising target.
  • Working with the Marketing & Fundraising Sub Committee to develop a joined up and comprehensive communications strategy which will help to increase the profile of the charity in order to attract more funds.
  • Advising on CYP’s approach to securing funds from some of the following: individual giving (including major donors and legacies), trusts and foundations, community events and corporates.
  • Advising on, and where appropriate, participating in the preparation of funding applications.

Location: 172 Copenhagen Street, Islington, London N1

Hours: The Trustees meet once per quarter in the early evening. Meetings are arranged at a time to suit all the trustees. Chair the Fundraising Sub-committee– hours to be arranged once in post. This could be a lunchtime telephone meeting once a quarter.

Duration: We are seeking an individual who can commit to our Board for a minimum of two years.

Salary: This is an unpaid voluntary position. Reasonable travel and expenses will be covered.

What are we looking for?

We are ideally looking for someone who has experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Has experience of working at a managerial/ decision making level.
  • Experience of either developing or delivering a fundraising strategy.
  • Understands a marketing led approach to fundraising.
  • Has the ability to work as part of a team in the collective effort of securing Open Country’s financial future.
  • Is willing to advocate on behalf of Open Country.
