TPP?s client, a national children's charity are looking to recruit a Residential Project Worker for one of their Services in East London.
Our client is a well-established charity who has been operational for over 100 years. They are dedicated to changing the lives of vulnerable and hard to reach children and young people and operate an array of services that range from domiciliary care to adoption services. With National reach our client not only provides a broad safety net for recipients of its care but also provides a framework for the diversification of its employee's skills. As a result of this our client can provide both variety in work as well as room for advancement; whether in front line care or management.
The service itself is a short breaks respite service for children and young people with learning disabilities and/or challenging behaviour and the role in question will involve working directly with these groups. As part of a team your goal will be to provide care and support to children that use your service and this will be achieved through a variety of methods including pedagogical techniques. Training in such techniques will be provided for the successful applicant and there is scope for further qualification as and when the role requires.
The job itself entails undertaking routine household chores and there may be a need for personal care; but the centre mainly focusses on activities and holistic care to ensure personal development. As a Residential Project Worker you will be expected to write daily reports, complete (with your supervisor) cares plans and handle petty cash. Attendance in staff meetings and reviews will be expected, as will routine record keeping that will require basic IT skills.
The successful candidate for this role will have an NVQ level 3 in caring for Children and Young People (or equivalent) as well as experience of working with children and young people within a residential or respite environment. Paid or voluntary experience of working with children or young people with a learning disability or challenging behaviour is essential. Sensitivity when working with the parents of children will be required as will the ability to cope well under pressure and any demonstrable experience in this field is desired.
