Can you be an Angel and help us spread the word about Penny for London?
As an enthusiastic volunteer (perhaps with a group of willing friends), you will take to the streets of London on 30th September to motivate and encourage people to sign up and donate a penny. It’s as simple as that!
The Mayor's Fund for London have teamed up with Transport for London to host ‘Penny for London' Day:
There are 650,000 London children living in poverty today. To put this into perspective, that’s 4 out of 10 children.
That’s where Penny for London comes in. Using the power of contactless donations, we aim to help charities in London tackle this issue and keep kids happy, healthy and on the path to a brighter future.
If one-in-ten of us gave a penny every time we travelled on the tube, it would raise a staggering £25million per year. That’s a lot of pennies.
So help us tell London about this scheme!
Show you care about this beautiful city and its inhabitants - join us in telling Londoners how they can make a big difference in a very small way when they sign up to Penny for London.
(Penny for London lets you donate one penny, or more if you wish, every day you travel on the TfL network and National Rail services that accept Oyster – and every time you use your contactless card at a participating retailer outlet. Launched by The Mayor's Fund for London in Oct 2014, all money raised is distributed to charities that work with children & young people in London).
The ideal volunteer will be outgoing, engaging and good with people. Confident, and not shy to challenge people on the move. Experience in outdoor marketing/campaigning is a plus but not essential. If you have friends that would like to take part too - bring them along!
Volunteers will receive 1 hour’s briefing at City Hall in mid Sept (date TBC), and a volunteer pack which will include: script, details about Penny for London, beneficiary case studies and merchandise.
Volunteers are required on 30th Sept only. The activity will take place at 12 different London Underground stations during 6-10AM and 4-8PM (max 8 hours in total).
Refreshments will be provided.
Travel will reimbursed against receipts.
