A specialist further education provision for learners with complex Autism based in North London are recruiting for Learning and Support Coordinators to manage their expanding team of Learning and Behaviour Specialists to ensure the delivery of high quality learning to young adults with autism to enable them to pursue their ambitions into accessing further education, work and leisure in a range of environments.
Half of this role will be working in a Learning and Behaviour Specialist capacity delivering the support, whilst the other half will be providing on the ground support in a management capacity.
This is a full time (37.5hrs a week) position on a permanent basis.
The main responsibilities of the Learning and Behaviour Specialist will be:
To ensure that Learning and Behaviour Specialists provide excellent, person-centred learning support that assists learners to achieve the learning targets laid out in their Individual Learning Plan (ILP)
To ensure that designated Learning and Behaviour Specialists consistently provide excellent levels of care and support and follow agreed practices and protocols.
Under the direction of the Learning Support Manager, to assist with ensuring that the service consistently remains regulatory compliant and operates in line with organisational policy.
Under the supervision of the Learning Support Manager, to rota and deploy staff in accordance with demand, assessments of young people, risk assessments and staff skills and suitability. This will include providing cover and support where necessary
To act as shift leader on designated days. This will include being the first point of contact for staff absences, organising cover for breaks and providing support to the Learning and Behaviour Specialist team as and when required
To be responsible for the effective performance management of designated Learning and Behaviour Specialists through regular supervision and appraisal and monitoring of agreed objectives
To ensure that direct reports are adequately trained to comply with regulatory requirements and able to implement timetables, programmes and provide effective person-centred support. This includes ensuring that training is refreshed according to need and best practice
To assist the Learning Support Manager with the development of person-centred programmes and timetables for each designated person who uses the service. The post-holder will be responsible for co-ordinating the implementation of these programmes, and for the provision of support and guidance to Learning and Behaviour Specialists to enable them to deliver them effectively. The Learning Support Co-ordinator will ensure that they are continually monitored and progress is being logged in accordance with agreed ILP objectives
It is essential that the Learning and Support Coordinator will have:
Knowledge and demonstrable experience of working with young adults with autism/SEN
Experience of working in a provision for young adults with autism or learning disabilities that provides an extensive community-based service
Experience of supporting young people with autism or learning disabilities in a further education (FE) environment
Experience of monitoring and reporting on the effectiveness of services
Proven experience of effective performance management of people and teams
Knowledge of the requirements of Care Quality Commission (CQC) and Health & Safety regulation and compliance
Experience of working within a CQC-regulated service
Willingness to support and participate actively in community-based sessions such as walking, swimming, gardening, catering
