Learning & Behaviour Specialist- circa £18,000
A specialist further education provision for learners with complex Autism based in North London are recruiting for Learning and Behaviour Specialists to expand their growing team delivering high quality learning to young adults with autism to enable them to pursue their ambitions into accessing further education, work and leisure in a range of environments.
There are both full time (37.5hrs a week) and part time (26hrs a week) positions available on a permanent basis.
The main responsibilities of the Learning and Behaviour Specialist will be:
To support learners to achieve the person-centred outcomes outlined in their individualised study programme.
This support will utilise evidence-based best practice and knowledge of autism.
Support will be provided to access further education settings, supported employment opportunities, social enterprises, leisure activities and home and community-based learning opportunities
To be responsible for safeguarding learners and reporting any concerns as per organisational policy and procedure
To provide excellent personal care support in line with organisational policy and approved support plans and guidelines. This may include support with toileting, the administration of medication, mealtime support etc.
Where key working responsibilities have been allocated, to ensure that learners' folders are kept valid and all documents reviewed as per agreed timelines.
Where directed, to produce and organise appropriate learning materials and resources
It is essential that the Learning and Behaviour Specialist will have:
Knowledge and demonstrable experience of working with young adults with autism/SEN
Demonstrable interest in and knowledge of autism
Experience of managing challenging behaviour
Demonstrable experience of the provision of high-quality person-centred support
The physical and emotional resilience to work with young adults with autism who may have behaviours that challenge (candidates' physical fitness levels will be tested during recruitment)
Willing to support and participate actively in community-based activities such as walking, swimming, cycling, gardening, catering
Willing to learn and commit to the principles of behavioural approaches such as ABA or PBS
