Healthwatch Wandsworth represents the views of patients, service users and carers with local commissioners and providers of health and social care services. Healthwatch is operated by Wandsworth Care Alliance (WCA) a local charity and is a member-led organisation.
We are looking for volunteers to represent the concerns and causes (both local and national) of Healthwatch at various forums and meetings that we are invited to attend as an independent health and social care consumer champion specifically in the following areas;
*Children's Services (1 Rep);
*Social Services (1 Rep);
*Older People's Services (1 Rep);
*Learning & Disabilities Services (1 Rep).
A keen interest in a variety of health and social care issues affecting local residents. The desire and conviction to represent the views of Wandsworth's residents to local healthcare service providers. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. A strong interest in working in the health and social care or charity sectors.
Ongoing, but a minimum of 3 months commitment, up to 4 hours spread over week (maximum), including time spent at meetings, reading papers and corresponding.
Accountable to: Healthwatch Manager
*Observe the Volunteers' Code of Conduct;
*Act as a "critical friend" at Healthwatch liaison meetings and other forums;
*Represent the collective views of our members and the public;
*Collect feedback from the community and communicate effectively to service providers;
*Contact potential new Healthwatch members and encourages them to sign-up;
*Handle information in a confidential, sensitive manner with due care, respect and discretion;
*Follow instructions and guidance, but also work independently when necessary.
Please note that this is an unpaid position. We are looking for a volunteer who is available for approximately up to 4 hours spread over a week. Although this position is unpaid, we offer excellent references upon the successful completion of your assignment. A standard DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is required for this role, which we will fund.

*Induction and support from a supervisor;
*Relevant training for volunteers within the health and social care sector is offered by agencies such as LCVA, NAVCA and the LGA. Also, regular conferences are organised by the CQC for local Healthwatch organisations. (All Healthwatch Wandsworth representatives will be invited to take part in these training and development opportunities);
*Supervision will be proportionate to the volunteers' time commitment, a minimum of monthly for the first three months;
*All supervision will be recorded and a formal supervision session will be held annually with your supervisor.
