FOUR PAWS is an international animal welfare organisation with headquarters in Vienna, Austria, and has offices in more than 10 other countries. Founded in 1988, the organisation works internationally to improve animal welfare through sustainable campaigns and projects. FOUR PAWS focuses on animals that are directly under human influence, for example farm animals, wild animals and companion animals, who are kept in inappropriate conditions. FOUR PAWS aims to help animals in need directly and quickly. Our client is looking for a Head of Finance to join their UK office.
FOUR PAWS UK is seeking a Head of Finance to be responsible for the charity accounting and financial reporting of FOUR PAWS UK, including the management of a full-time Finance Co-worker. Head of Finance reports directly into the UK Country Manager and International Director of Finance and Administration.
*Lead on the preparation of monthly management reporting containing management accounts, P&L and cash flow forecasts and FOUR PAWS UK FR analysis to the management team and Board including year-end income and expenditure accounts
*Recording and controlling the charities income and expenditure
*Reconcile supplier invoices and make online payments
*Oversee employee expense process ensuring robust controls in place
*Manage and prepare the payroll data for transmission to the external accountant including liaising with HRMC on employee tax related matters
*Prepare monthly management accounts for the Country Manager and Director of Finance
*Lead the budgeting process, working with the Country Manager, Heads of department and the Board
*Lead the consolidation of monthly cash flow forecasts and the preparation and consolidation of monthly P&L forecasts for the UK
*Co-ordinate the annual group audit for FOUR PAWS UK to ensure the group audit is completed and statutory accounts signed off within six months of the financial year end
*Produce and ensure the timely submission of all local statutory filings (SORP)with the Charity Commission and Company House in the UK
*Ensure compliance with UK charity legislation/regulations
*Oversee the processing of the UK payroll, ensuring all relevant PAYE and employer taxes are filed correctly
*Oversee the filing of all relevant VAT filings for the group if relevant
*Support the fundraising team as required with respect to fundraising reporting and reconciling fundraising and finance figures
*Oversee UK Gift Aid and legacy accounting
*Maintenance of fixed asset register
*Oversee the management of all funds and bank accounts, developing an investment policy for any surplus funds and monitoring charity and company reserves
*Manage the roll-out of a any new finance systems, integrating the system into all existing entities
*Manage the transition to Auto enrolment pension. Advise Country Manager and Finance Director on pension regulations and ensure compliance with UK legislation.
*Advise the Senior Management Team, Heads of Department on financial policies and key financial decisions
*Represent the country finance function at Board meetings and present financial reports
*Qualified Accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA CIPFA)
*Substantial experience of financial management (ideally within a charity setting)
*Excellent analytical and interpretive ability
*Experienced in the preparation, monitoring and reporting of budget and financial management information
*Solid experience of working in the charity sector with responsibility for charity accounting and financial reporting
*Experience of with Fundraising teams and managing fundraising finance requirements
*Excellent understanding of legal and tax issues relating to companies and charities in the UK
*Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively present financial reports at board meetings
*Excellent working knowledge of Quickbooks, Microsoft Access; Outlook; Word; PowerPoint and Excel
*Excellent knowledge of accounting principles and best practice, computer software for accounting, financial statements and their preparation, payroll reporting and systems
*Excellent leadership, interpersonal, teambuilding, and problem-solving skills
*Must be a skilled communicator, with well-developed verbal, written and presentation ability.
