RNLI Heritage is defined as the never-ending story of our people and in order to preserve that history, the heritage team collect and care for the objects, archives and pictures that tell the story of the service since it was founded in 1824. The overall aim is to inspire current and future generations of supporters and lifesavers to enable the RNLI to continue to save lives at sea.
Main body text
The RNLI Grace Darling Museum, founded in 1938, tells the story of Grace Darling, who risked her life to rescue others from certain death in a terrible storm. The museum relives the life and times of the fearless girl who became a reluctant celebrity. The exhibition illustrates Grace's upbringing and life on the lighthouse, the events of the rescue and her subsequent fame. Grace's story is told through personal items, including letters, family portraits and the famous coble. The museum also contains an RNLI shop, stocking a wide range of gifts, including RNLI branded goods and Grace Darling merchandise.
The role of Museum Front of House Volunteer begins with welcoming our visitors to the museum, relaying information about the museum and providing an excellent level of customer service. Queries may relate to the life of Grace Darling and her family or to information about Bamburgh and the surrounding area; however, you don't have to be an expert as there's always a colleague on hand to assist. Your role also includes serving customers in the gift shop, stock replenishment and cash handling, whilst maintaining our high standard of customer service.
We are looking for a flexible individual who has the odd morning or afternoon free to help keep alive the story of Grace and her heroic rescue, whilst raising vital funds to save lives at sea and preserve the heritage of the RNLI.
