A faith based NGO focused on social enterprises around women and children’s needs in the Arab world are seeking an experienced Finance Manager for a fixed term contract position. The role is focused around improving core finance and treasury processes and liaising with outsourced accountants to streamline the charity’s finances.
The role will involve:
-Supporting the Operations Director in significantly strengthening the charity’s finance, compliance and human resource functions. To ensure that key operations and competencies are built up within the team to ensure that efficiencies and improvements are achieved and sustained into the future.
-Review and streamline the financial accounting processes, including coding, liaison with the outsourcing provider, and improve efficiency and effectiveness of transaction processing
-Review and streamline the chart of accounts and analysis codes, and work with the outsourcing provider to implement change
-Act as primary point of contact with the finance outsourcing provider to ensure that systems are working appropriately
-Develop, document and implement clear processes and timetable for financial accounting and financial management reporting, ensuring that income and expenditure are accurately recorded, payments are made on a timely basis, and accurate and complete management accounts are finalised on a timely basis
-Develop and improve key finance policies and practices including procurement and expenses
-Depending on the outcome of a funding bid that may require VAT registration, the post holder may also be required to lead on registering the charity for VAT
-Develop a budget and reforecast processes and templates, and work with the outsourcing provider to ensure that they can be uploaded efficiently into the accounting system
-Review and analyse management accounts, seek variance explanations, prepare commentary and summaries, and ensure management agree any required action
-Develop and implement a cashflow forecast that guides operations across geographies and currencies, and update this monthly
-Fully or part-qualified Accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA)
-Experience of the finance operations, processes and systems of UK charities (preferably those working internationally or in the Middle East)
-Knowledge of the finance and compliance environment and regulations for a UK-based charity
-Experience of the development and practical implementation of internal policies and processes
-Knowledge and experience of developing budgets, forecasts and cashflows
-Pragmatic approach and good understanding of the requirements of a small organisation
The organisation is happy to be flexible in terms of working arrangements and hours – they will consider candidates looking for 3, 4 or 5 days per week, and the duration of the contract will be 6-9 months in length depending on the number of days agreed.
