About the opportunity
Do you knit, crochet, embroider, do paper crafts, upcycle, make jewellery, or have any other craft skill that you would like to share with others? Or are you creative enough to invent simple but effective craft activities, especially using free, recycled or inexpensive materials? If so, please get in touch!
We are looking for volunteers to support craft sessions and lead weekly activities. You would be part of a team who take turns in leading sessions so you wouldn't need to lead every week.
The craft sessions are linked to the Neighbour Scheme, an exciting new project which brings local people together in activities to promote wellbeing. We are working with 6 local GP practices who refer people into our Neighbour Scheme services. Craft sessions are a way of improving mental wellbeing.
About The Springfield Project
The Springfield Project is a Birmingham-based charity with a passion for our local community. We are committed to providing a safe and welcoming space in which people from diverse backgrounds can meet and receive support.
The Project developed from St Christopher's Church's commitment to supporting families in the local area and sharing God's love in our community.
We work in partnership with Birmingham City Council to deliver children's centre services providing activities and support for families with children under 5.
We run the Neighbour Scheme, a social prescription project between local GPs and the Springfield Project, working to reduce isolation and improve the mental wellbeing of adults referred by their GP or self-referred.
What are they looking for?
Craft skills are important to this role. Patience, listening skills and ability to encourage others are also important. Ability, confidence and willingness to help design activities and/or coordinate a craft programme would be really useful, but this is not an essential part of the role.
We run two craft sessions a week. One of these sessions is women only and requires a female volunteer, another is mixed and can be carried out by men or women.
Reasonable travel expenses can be reimbursed if necessary.
If you are interested in this opportunity, please email Rosalyn Clare at firstname.lastname@example.org saying why you would be a good person for the role, as well as your post code.
