Job Description - EXPIRED

The Barry Island Visitor Centre is one of only two standalone RNLI visitor centres and is a new initiative to help save lives at sea by promoting the work of the RNLI within the community and tourist population, to help raise awareness of water safety messages and generate life-saving funds.

The Visitor Centre will provide a unique and free opportunity for individuals and groups to experience the RNLI’s work, learn about how to stay safe and support the charity through purchasing quality gifts in the RNLI shop. The facility will be open daily for visitors and can be booked for bespoke educations visits. We also have an outreach community education team who are able to visit schools or youth groups on request to deliver life-saving education messages linked to the national curriculum. We offer fun interactive sessions both at the centre and out in the community, delivered by experienced volunteer presenters.

We are looking for volunteers to join the Barry Island Visitor Centre team to present water safety messages to young people using both the interactive facility at the centre as well as through visits to local schools and youth groups.

For many young people, visiting the centre or listening to a presentation at their school or youth group will be the first time that they come into contact with the RNLI, and as a Community Youth Education Volunteer you could be the person that engages and inspires them to stay safe and to support us now, and in the future. Your engaging and enthusiastic nature will ensure that the Visitor Centre is a friendly and attractive place to visit, and that the RNLI’s values are well represented both in the Centre and out in the community.

Would you like to be part of this new and exciting development in Barry Island? Could you give a few hours a week to give inspiring talks to young people both in and out of the centre? A background in education is not essential but enthusiasm for the RNLI and an ability to communicate well is. Training and support for the role will be provided.

To discuss this opportunity further please contact RNLI Youth Education Manager Anthony Jones on 07766 422 257.
