Solace Women's Aid is a London based charity working primarily with women and children affected by domestic and sexual violence. The organisation has grown significantly over the last few years and we are looking to recruit a talented Chairwoman to guide the Board of Trustees in maintaining a healthy and active governance function.
Strong candidates will demonstrate the following characteristics:
*Previous board experience in the charitable sector, especially experience of providing firm strategic direction and setting overall policy
*Understanding of work in the Violence Against Women and Girls sector
*Ability to network with both internal and external stakeholders
*Ability to interpret and draw insights from documents such as operational updates, audit performance and financial reporting in order to evaluate performance against targets
*Excellent interpersonal skills
*Sensitivity and discretion in dealing with staff and service user issues
Successful candidates will be required to:
*Chair 4 board meetings and two away days each year
*Conduct regular supervisions with the Chief Executive Officer of Solace
*Respond as-needed in between regular Board business to requests from Solace
*Attend periodic staff functions as requested
*Ensure smooth operation of Trustees
Trustees can claim reasonable out-of-pocket and travel expenses but are not otherwise remunerated.
