SPEAR Ambassador (unpaid) - adhoc role
SPEAR are a long established and renowned charity working in the Boroughs of Richmond upon Thames and Merton addressing homelessness and rough sleeping. We address not just housing, but also encourage our clients to follow a pathway towards independence; taking a person centred approach.
SPEAR has fantastic longstanding partnerships with trusts (such as Richmond Parish lands, Berkeley Foundation and Streetsmart), corporate partners (including SW Trains, St George's Property, HML Holdings and Thames Valley Housing) and statutory organisations for funding. This year we were the designated charity for the Richmond Half Marathon, Twickenham Festival and Richmond Riverside event, held a wonderful corporate masquerade ball at Twickenham Festival and Richmond Riverside event, have a SPEAR choir and will also be holding our annual sleep-out event! So you will be joining SPEAR at a very exciting time.
Task Description and Person Specification
Would you be willing to volunteer with our Fundraising and Communications Department to tell our community about the SPEAR? As an Ambassador you will have a unique platform to deliver presentations and thank our supporters on behalf of SPEAR to schools, businesses, churches and other local groups.
Location: 89 Heath Road, Twickenham, but visiting local organisations.
Principle Responsibility: Give talks about SPEAR's work and represent SPEAR to local organisations and community groups.
Time Commitment: To take part in fundraising events as agreed. This would probably be once a month or less, but would be at the Ambassador's convenience, as agreed with the Community Fundraiser.
We are looking for:
*Volunteers who have a real passion for this role and the desire to support SPEAR.
*Volunteers who have the confidence to speak to community groups about the work that SPEAR does.
*Volunteers who will be reliable and will attend when they have agreed to attend.
*Volunteers who enjoy public speaking, meeting strangers and representing SPEAR.
*Volunteers with specific skills to address churches, colleges or schools.
*Someone who is comfortable to "think on their feet" and deal with questions or interruptions.
*SPEAR Ambassador to take on speaking engagements and networking opportunities with local schools, colleges and other organisations.
*The fundraising team will work with teams of Ambassadors to offer guidance and presentation information for different talks.
*SPEAR will provide inductions and training and ongoing supervision to ensure that SPEAR Ambassadors will feel equipped and supported.
*SPEAR Ambassador to attend events / talks as agreed.
*The fundraising team will provide ongoing support and supervision.
If you are interested in this role, please contact our fundraising team first for an informal discussion. After this, you will be required to complete a Volunteer Registration Form listing your skills and experience.
