Job Description

CARIS Camden, the charity that has run C4WS Homeless Project since 2005, is launching a new project this winter.

CARIS Camden Families has been established to support homeless families living in temporary accommodation in the Borough of Camden.  Our first venture is an After School Club for children aged 12 and under, living in one of Camden Council’s hostels in Chalk Farm, NW1.  The After School Club runs from the hostel’s basement, from 4 – 6.30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays in term time.  We may expand to offer a third afternoon in due course.  The Club offers play activities, homework support and after-school snacks to the kids, and socialising space and pastoral support to their parents, who are required to be on-site.

We are now looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us run the club for our 0-12 year olds.  You don’t need experience of working with children to apply, but you will need to be:

  • Free to volunteer on at least one Tuesday or Thursday afternoon a term (more frequent attendance welcome), from the hours of 3.15pm to 6.45pm
  • Happy to get stuck in with play activities, arts and crafts, family registration, homework support and snack preparation, as the session requires (special skills not necessary, but a bonus!)
  • Understanding of- and empathetic towards the difficulties faced by children and their parents living in hostel accommodation, as they wait for a suitable home to become available
  • Willing to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure criminal record check (organised and paid for by CARIS Camden Families).

If you’d be interested in getting involved, please email Becky, the Project Manager, for more information: becky@cariscamdenfamilies.org

We value diversity at TPP and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
