Cotswold Riding for the Disabled is more than a riding school. We have created a community of people who come together to ride ponies, or to help others to ride ponies. We are united by a strong sense that contact with ponies can offer excellent therapy to young and old who live with a disability.
We can see the physical benefits to the individuals who ride with us, and we can also measure the improvements in confidence, social skills and enjoyment!
We provide life-changing therapy to over 200 riders with physical and/or learning disabilities. Our youngest rider is 3 years old and our oldest rider has just celebrated her 77th birthday.
We need volunteers to help in the riding lessons by walking alongside the pony and encouraging and supporting the rider.
You do not need any experience of horses, although it helps, as we give training in all you need to know, and will buddy you up with an experienced volunteer.
We have a great team who will welcome you and support you. Volunteering with us is a good way to meet new people, gain new skills and you will be making a real difference to our riders.
You need to be fit enough to stand and walk, with short bursts of jogging, for a couple of hours. It is great gentle exercise!
- We give lessons Monday to Friday 10am to 3.30pm. Volunteers can give one to two hours at a time, or you can stay all day
- We do after school sessions Monday, Tuesday and Thursday for one or two hours
- We do sessions from 8.30am to 1pm on a Sunday
So very flexible volunteering hours to suit you!
