The charitable work of Tools with a Mission is to collect unwanted tools, refurbish them, sort them into trade kits and send them across the world for livelihood creation. We send around 20 containers filled with over 300 tonnes of tools every year. To do this we rely on a national volunteer workforce and welcome people of all ages and abilities and of any faith and no faith.

We do this because we want to support local people supporting their own communities through sustainable livelihood creating projects. We believe there is dignity through work and the ability to provide for yourself and your family. We believe entire communities can be transformed through training and the provision of tool kits and equipment. As a Christian Charity, we believe that God's heart reaches out to the poor and that He calls us to follow His example. Our motivation is to work with faith and non-faith-based organisations to be a refuge for the poor, a safe place to find support, hope and dignity through the provision of tools and equipment.

TWAM are currently looking for Volunteer Tool Collectors. This role is to respond to requests from members of the public to collect tools they have to donate and to store them for the TWAM van to collect.

There is considerable flexibility in this role time wise as collections can be made at any time which is agreed between you and the donor.

If you prefer not to or don't drive, then you can also be a drop off point when people bring the tools to you.

Typical tasks may include:

  • Taking calls and emails from members of the public
  • Arranging collection times
  • Driving to collect tools from people and bringing them back to your storage area
Arranging collections from the TWAM vans

You should have a friendly and welcoming personality as you will be the face of TWAM to members of the Public. You need to enjoy driving (unless acting only as a drop off) and be happy to travel reasonable distances. You also need to be reasonably physically fit as the loads of tools can be heavy. Finally, you need to be reasonably organised to ensure that you check emails regularly and respond to these and telephone requests and can sort out your schedule around any other commitments you have.

We provide an induction to the role which may be either over the phone, electronically or in person and a volunteer handbook on starting. You will have a named contact within TWAM for any questions or problems and further training can be provided as required. You will also be given a TWAM Polo Shirt and fleece to wear and an ID card if required.

From the role, you will gain a warm satisfaction at the difference you are making to people's lives. You will also have opportunities if you wish to learn new skills. We will provide a reference if required for a future employer or other organisation.

This role would need a minimum age of 18 years old. Some criminal convictions may debar you from this role due to the fact you will be meeting members of the public and potentially juveniles. Each case is considered on its merits.
