The Cardinal Hume Centre enables people to gain the skills they need to overcome poverty and homelessness. We are on one site in Victoria with 62 paid staff and over 100 regular volunteers. As well as Family Services, we provide support on immigration, employment, English and I.T, housing, welfare rights and a young people's hostel. We have achieved the Investing in Volunteers Award and, in our 2017 Volunteer Survey, 100% of our volunteers are happy volunteering with us and would recommend us to their family and friends. "I have been at the Centre for two years and I absolutely love working here. I get to meet so many inspiring people, who against all the odds, manage to turn their lives around - it's incredible." Centre Volunteer
We have a couple of different volunteer opportunities available:
In response to requests from parents, the Centre provides an after-school homework club in school term time only, providing a quiet place for children and their parent to receive help with the child's studies. On a busy club, there can be 20 children!
Homework Club times are Monday and Fridays 3.30-5.30pm and Wednesdays 4 - 6pm.
Saturday Club - Family Fun & Learning
On Saturday mornings, we welcome children under 12 in the mornings, from 10 - 12pm for structured activities, free play and outdoor play. Then from 1- 3.30pm, we welcome parents and children under 12 for organised activities and games for everyone to join in on and refreshments to enjoy.
