Who is Sported?
Sported is a leading Sport for Development charity which emerged as part of the London 2012 Olympics. The objectives of the charity are to help to transform the lives of disadvantaged young people across the UK.
We are a free membership organisation, working with 3000 amazing community organisations ranging from sports clubs, local charities and community groups. The Yorkshire region has been active since 2011 and one of the first regions to have evolved during the early period of the charities evolution and supporting over 300 organisations.
These organisations are harnessing the power of sport to tackle the root causes of some of society's biggest problems, and giving disadvantaged young people the opportunities to succeed in life. Most of our members are, themselves, led by volunteers.
While they're knowledgeable and passionate about their local communities, and know how to work effectively with young people, they can often lack the skills, the time and the networks they need to develop. This is where we seek volunteers with experience in specific areas who will assist and impart knowledge to these organisations, such areas may be to formulate a business plan, develop a funding application, source corporate sponsorship or develop a fundraising strategy.
It is such an important time to support Sported as we look to help organisations looking to make big changes in society. As we emerge out of Covid we have found our role has become more varied as we have been providing support to retain our valuable community infrastructure and help it to continue to serve the needs of our communities.
As we move into future challenges around cost of living where community organisations are often the hub of the community the value of volunteering your skills for sported is invaluable to ensure we have a resilient and sustainable sector supporting those hardest to reach.
