The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. We provide, on call, a 24 hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the UK and Ireland, and a seasonal lifeguard service. With our lifeboats, lifeguards, safety messages and flood rescue we are committed to saving more lives.
The RNLI’s Lifeboat Station in Youghal is looking for a volunteer to take on the role of Inshore Lifeboat Mechanic and Vehicle Maintainer.
Situated in the south east of Cork, Youghal has had a lifeboat station for over 165 years and the crews have been awarded six RNLI medals for gallantry. Today’s station operates an inshore B class Atlantic 85 lifeboat.
The role of the Inshore Lifeboat Mechanic and Vehicle Maintainer is to cover for the full-time Station Mechanic (where appropriate) during their weekend leave and other periods of absence, to crew the lifeboat as a mechanic on service, exercise, passages and trials, to maintain competence under Competency Based Training and to contribute to the operational efficiency of the lifeboat station, lifeboats and equipment.
This is a good opportunity to join a motivated and enthusiastic local team and have the satisfaction of contributing to saving lives at sea.
If you are a team player with an understanding of mechanical/electrical systems and the ability to learn new skills this could be the role for you. You must live or work close to the lifeboat station and be between 17 and 65 years of age.
