The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. We provide, on call, a 24 hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the UK and Ireland, and a seasonal lifeguard service. With our lifeboats, lifeguards, safety messages and flood rescue we are committed to saving more lives.
The RNLI’s Lifeboat Station in Barry Dock is looking for a volunteer to join the existing team in the role of Lifeboat Press Officer.
Situated on the north shore of the Severn estuary in a major port, Barry Dock lifeboat station has operated an all-weather lifeboat for over 100 years. In 2015 Barry Dock RNLI was the seventh busiest lifeboat station in Wales as the volunteers saved a life, responded to 45 launch requests and rescued 24 people. The volunteer lifeboat crew are supported by a full-time Coxswain and Mechanic as well as a dedicated volunteer management team lead by the Lifeboat Operations Manager. The wider team includes volunteer shore crew, fundraisers and shop volunteers.
The role of the Lifeboat Press Officer is to build and maintain friendly relationships with local press, radio, television and online media, keeping the community informed of operational activity, promote newsworthy rescues and lifeboat station events, using a variety of channels, such as email, phone, or social media, using photos and video where possible.
This is a good opportunity to join a motivated and enthusiastic local team and have the satisfaction of contributing to saving lives at sea.
If you have good communication, writing and IT skills this could be the role for you.
