The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. We provide, on call, a 24 hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the UK and Ireland, and a seasonal lifeguard service. With our lifeboats, lifeguards, safety messages and flood rescue we are committed to saving more lives.

The RNLI's Lifeboat Station in St Davids is looking for a volunteer to take on the role of Deputy Launching Authority.

Since 1869 the lifeboat crews and lifeboats of St Davids Lifeboat Station have covered the rugged south west coast of Wales. A new boathouse and slipway was opened in 2016 to accommodate the Tamar class all-weather and D-class inshore lifeboat which respond to a wide variety of calls from swimmers and surfers, through fishing boats and yachts up to ferries and oil tankers. The area is also very popular with outdoor pursuits enthusiasts - kayakers, climbers and coasteerers. The Lifeboat Crew is made up of 28 volunteers plus two employed members of staff - the Coxswain and Mechanic. The team is headed up by the Lifeboat Operations Manager and Deputy Launching Authorities and supported by a Shore Crew team. All boat and shore crew follow the RNLI's national Competency Based Training Scheme and respond to pagers when there is a request to launch the lifeboats. The wider team includes volunteer fundraisers who also look after the station's shop.

The role of DLA is to authorise launch of the lifeboats, provide leadership in the absence of the Lifeboat Operations Manager or as delegated and ensure that all operational activities are carried out to maintain the lifeboats and all associated equipment in a constant state of readiness for launching on service.

This is a good opportunity to join a motivated and enthusiastic local team and have the satisfaction of contributing to saving lives at sea.

If you are a team player with leadership skills and local maritime knowledge this could be the role for you. You must live or work within three miles of the station and be between 17 and 70 years of age.

Please apply online at or for further information contact the RNLI's Volunteering Team on 01202 66 33 46 or by email on
