The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. We provide, on call, a 24 hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the UK and Ireland, and a seasonal lifeguard service. With our lifeboats, lifeguards, safety messages and flood rescue we are committed to saving more lives.

Aberdeen is one of the oldest lifeboat stations in Scotland. For over 200 years the crews have been saving lives at sea, as well as inland during flooding, and they have been honoured with 26 awards for gallantry.

Aberdeen lifeboat station houses both an inshore lifeboat (ILB) and an all-weather lifeboat (ALB) and is looking for volunteers to join as crew for both of these lifeboats.

The Lifeboat Crew are all volunteers, headed up by the Lifeboat Operations Manager and Deputy Launching Authorities.  All boat crew follow the RNLI’s national Competency Based Training Scheme and respond to pagers when there is a request to launch the lifeboat. Typically the lifeboat at Aberdeen is launched within 10 to 15 minutes of pager activation. The wider team includes volunteer fundraisers, community safety volunteers and volunteer youth education presenters.

The role of the boat crew is to undertake and maintain Competency Based Training as necessary to fulfil the role of crew member, to be on call for lifeboat ‘shouts’, to attend exercises and to contribute to the overall upkeep of the station, lifeboats and equipment.

This is a good opportunity to join a motivated and enthusiastic local team and have the satisfaction of contributing to saving lives at sea.

If you live and work within Aberdeen and you are a team player with good general fitness and the ability to learn new skills this could be the role for you. No previous maritime experience needed although you will need to have a driving licence, vehicle and, permission from your employer to respond to the lifeboat station emergency bleeper.

You must live or work within the Aberdeen city boundary in order to be able to reach the station within the required timeframe and be between 17 and 45 years of age to join the ILB crew.
