Volunteer RNLI Community Safety Adviser - Looe Cornwall

In this role, our volunteers are crucial, helping raise awareness and spreading our safety messages to boat owners, cliff walkers, scuba divers, in fact anyone who goes on or near water.

Location description

Looe, Cornwall

Time commitment

Flexible

Volunteer area

South West UK

The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea, but it's not limited to launching a lifeboat or providing lifeguards to save lives.

Community safety fulfils one of the four strands of the RNLI's concept of operations, saving live at sea by providing free education and advice and facilitating other interventions through Community Lifesaving Plans.

The Community Safety Adviser is a public facing role as you will be going out into the community and delivering the RNLI community safety advice directly to members of the community.

Whilst you are out in the community we would ask you to take the opportunity to seek out further openings to promote the RNLI's safety messages advising your Community Safety Officer of opportunities which may arise.

This is a great role for somebody who has good communication and people skills and possibly some experience of public speaking but if not, the desire to gain some skills and/or confidence in this area. The ability to interact within a team will be important and, whilst it would be desirable to have some knowledge of coastal activity, this is by no means a requirement to be considered for this role.

If you would like to join a friendly, dedicated and motivated team in Looe and fit the criteria above or, have some of the required skills and would like to develop further in this area, we would like to hear from you. Training will be provided to ensure a full knowledge of the RNLI and in particular the work of Community Safety Team.

This is a volunteer opportunity within the RNLI. RNLI volunteers are people who, unpaid and of their own free will, contribute their time, energy and skills to support the purposes of the RNLI. RNLI volunteers may perform a variety of tasks and duties, under direction and guidance; using their skills, knowledge and time to help the RNLI best achieve its objectives.

We respect and honour our volunteers by building trust and understanding. Such a partnership is not intended to be a legally binding contract or to have mutuality of obligation, but instead express a voluntary two-way commitment where everyone gains satisfaction from being part of our organisation.

Our staff and volunteers have been saving lives at sea without prejudice for nearly 200 years. We respect and value diversity of background, skills and perspectives within our teams, and consider it essential to help us deliver a world-class lifesaving service. We are an inclusive organisation and welcome applications from everyone. In addition to having the skills needed for the role, we also look for applicants who share our commitment to living our RNLI values (trustworthy, courageous, selfless, and dependable), and helping us work towards our goals of halving drowning in the UK and Ireland by 2024. This involves a growing commitment to preventative action, using our expertise to work in partnership with communities locally, nationally and internationally to prevent drowning.
