Roles: Volunteer Administrators
Supported by: Head of Department as appropriate
Main Purpose: To provide effective administrative support

Overview

We require highly organised and motivated volunteers to provide effective general administrative assistance to our Building, HR, Production and HR teams.

These roles would be ideal for those who are seeking to build up their CV within Arts Administration, graduates, parents who are returning to work as well as experienced professionals seeking to contribute the wealth of their experience for the benefit of their local community.

These roles offer the opportunity to work within a busy and friendly office. Your contribution will be greatly appreciated and will make a real impact on the work of Chickenshed.

For the Building Team, the admin role could involve any of the following aspects of theatre management - from the day-to-day running of a theatre to the general care of the building, theatre contracts, Health & Safety, insurance and budgets, supporting the building team in fulfilling financial tasks such as paying bills, updating the various budgets on Excel and liaising with external companies.

The Production Team is looking for a volunteer to take notes at the fortnightly team meeting and to type these onto a template, which will form the basis of the Minutes for the Production Manager to finalise. This role offers a fascinating insight into the work of the technical team (sound, lighting, wardrobe and stage management).

The Fundraising Team needs to raise £1.4million this year and needs support with various activities across the department. This role will suit someone who is able to conduct research as required; able to help out at fundraising events (where necessary, as appropriate) and is interested in building relationships with people and promoting Chickenshed.

Our HR Team requires general admin support with keeping records, policies and procedures up to date, filing, supporting the H&S functions and other processes and procedures as required. Previous HR experience would be very helpful, but not essential for this role.

For all roles the ideal volunteers should:

  • be friendly, helpful, and intuitive
  • be able to work with complete discretion and confidentiality
  • be able to use Microsoft Office and Excel to create and edit documents
  • be able to input data accurately onto our database and be happy to do it!
  • have good written and communication skills
  • have previous administrative and office experience
  • be well organised and efficient
  • be able to collate data and produce spread sheets/data tables
  • be able to work well as part of a team

General Requirements

To operate within Chickenshed policies and procedures, including health and safety, equal opportunities, confidentiality and safeguarding policies

Training

Training and support will be given as necessary.

Times and Commitment

These are voluntary positions for those who can spare a few hours every week. Any support, whether short term (6 weeks/3 months) or longer term on a one or two day a week basis, would be welcome. Flexible hours are possible.
