Reporting to: Directors

Based at home/remote (hybrid) and expected to attend important team meetings occasionally either on Zoom or in person, at Allia Business Centre, Peterborough

Salary: This is a voluntary only role and you are expected to pay your own taxes.

Expenses: We will reimburse you for all agreed expenses

Hours of work: This is a part-time role of 10 hours per week. You will occasionally be required to work out of hours and flexibility will be expected.

This contract is for one year with the possibility of extension, with a three-month trial on both sides.

Safeguarding: Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory DBS check.

We also require the candidate to sign our code of practice.

About the role:

This is a varied and interesting role in which you will play an important part in supporting ETS and its growth. The Business Development Officer will drive both digital and physical marketing by developing our brand, so that we can own the centre ground of Discipleship training in both the UK and other English-speaking Countries.

The role involves reaching out to churches to promote our discipleship training. This will be by targeted emails, letters, phone calls, along with our social media programs and our website. We hope this role will move into a paid position, once we achieve our targets with the three phases of growth.

Phase 1: Business Development Officer to create income streams to enable ETS to achieve a minimum monthly income of around £2,500 per month, which will derive from monthly subscriptions paid by churches and other charities for our discipleship training. Along with this, the Business Development Officer will create opportunities to bring in further income via our evangelism and overseas courses. We expect the Fundraising Officer and Business Development Officer roles to work together to complement each other in providing ideas and leads to achieve our targets. We will also recruit a part time Admin volunteer.

Phase 2: Subject to increased target funding and income streams, we hope to see new course trainers, more UK Church placements, additional overseas trips, and more trustees. Both Fundraising and Business Development Officers to receive payments (dependent on income) along with Admin volunteer hours to be increased.

Phase 3: By this phase, we would expect to be well known for our Discipleship training both in the UK and overseas. Therefore, subject to achieved target funding, we aim to see ETS manuals printed in different languages. Along with this we hope the Fundraising, Business Development Officer & Admin roles to be paid with increased hours, along with the two Founding Directors to receive a salary, and a new office to cater for the increase in staff. The objective of both fundraising and business development is to create enough finance to support the many churches and Christians throughout this world who are keen to have our courses, but cannot afford the cost. Therefore, we want all new believers to really understand what true discipleship means, so that we can encourage and equip men and women of God, to embrace the power and authority they have in the name of Jesus, to put names in heaven and see signs, wonders and miracles.

About the candidate:

The ideal candidate will be highly organised, creative, and self-starting, bringing relevant experience to the role. This job would suit either an experienced business development person, marketer or someone earlier in their career who is ready to take on more responsibility and play a key role in ETS’ future development.

There is an occupational requirement attached to this role requiring you to be a practicing, Christian.

Person Specification:


  • Mature Christian faith. In order to safeguard ETS’ Christian culture and ethos and in keeping with the Equality Act 2010 (Schedule 9 Para 3) ETS’ Trustees have applied an occupational requirement to this role whereby the post holder will be committed to upholding and modelling ETS’ Christian ethos.
  • Supportive of the work of ETS
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with experience of engaging with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Ability to proactively build and develop positive relationships internally and externally
  • Excellent organisation skills
  • Strong project management/administration skills, preferably in the charity sector
  • IT and social media literate (experience of mailing systems e.g. Mail Chimp is desirable)
  • Experience of working with CRMs/databases/MS Excel Spreadsheet
  • Self-motivated and confident working alone
  • Solutions-focused
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and team player
  • Capacity to be flexible and innovative in the changing circumstances of a small, but growing charity
