About Us

Bliss is the UK's leading charity for premature and sick babies: our vision is that every baby born premature or sick in the UK has the best chance of survival and quality of life. Since our foundation by parents in 1979 we have grown to a charity of just under £2.5 million, working across the UK to deliver our mission by empowering families, influencing policy and practice, and enabling life-changing research.

The Role

We are recruiting 2 new Trustees to join our passionate and committed Board, to support the charity's governance and overall strategic direction.

About you

We need people who can help us achieve our ambitious plans, who are good at reviewing and challenging those plans to help us to improve them, and who have the time and skills to commit to this important role. In particular, we are keen to hear from applicants with background, skills and experience in any of the following areas:

  • Professional experience in the small-medium size charity sector (c.£3M-£10M turnover), in particular with expertise in either policy or fundraising
  • Experience / understanding of research
  • A practising neonatologist

We are also keen to hear from applicants who are not based in London/south-east to ensure our board fully reflects our beneficiaries across the UK; and from those with a diversity of experiences and backgrounds. Previous board/trustee experience is not necessary and we welcome applications from all ages and backgrounds.

Why apply?

As a trustee you will join the charity at a critical time as we have recently launched our new three-year strategy, in our 40th anniversary year. There is so much more to do for sick and tiny babies in the UK and to provide much needed emotional and practical help for their families - one in eight babies in the UK needs specialist support after birth. Bliss is passionately committed to ensuring that all babies and their families have the best possible care wherever they are born. Join us to help us make a difference!

We really value the diversity of ideas and skills that Trustees can bring, and welcome applications that can help us reflect this on our Board.
