St Wilfrid’s Hospice was established in 1982 and provides specialist palliative and end of life care to the people of Eastbourne and surrounding parts of East Sussex, a catchment area of 235,000 people. With a multidisciplinary staff team of c.180 and over 500 volunteers, we provide support for the physical, psychosocial and spiritual needs of more than 1,000 patients each year with a variety of life limiting illnesses, plus support for their families, from our state of the art hospice building and in the community. We are rated ‘outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission.
We have ambitious plans to extend the care and support we provide to our wider area, tailoring our services to the needs of individual communities. We are now looking to add to our effective and collegiate board of trustees with people who can proactively contribute to the board and make a difference to outcomes. We seek people with experience or understanding of governance in charities, who are forward-thinking and can offer strategic perspective, are fair-minded and who accept the principle of collective decision-making and accountability. Of course you must also be committed to the values and principles of the hospice and be available to attend evening board/committee meetings plus an annual awayday.
In addition to general trustee/governance skills, we are looking specifically for people with a background and experience in a clinical/medical capacity; one of the allied health professions; health and social care policy/commissioning; and fundraising/marketing.
We will offer full training and induction for those selected. These roles are not remunerated but we will pay travel and related expenses.
